I suppose a lot of people will agree with me about my favorite author Mr. Kurt Vonnegut, that he's not what he used to be. It's just one of those things, if I can still be as funny as him at 83 or even JUST BE ALIVE to tell jokes, i'll be happy I think. Seeing him at OSU last night was a lot of fun, it gave me chance to say, "At least I saw him." He probably is going to be or already considered one of the great American writers of the 20th century. So I went to see him, and as Beth writes in her journal, he really just went on and on. A great literary figure is supposed to have a point I guess. But like I said, he's 83...what do you expect? I just viewed him as my grandpa, always speaking what's exactly on his mind, singing songs when he felt like it (yes vonnegut did burst into song at one point) but he's just human right? He said himself that he didn't know how the hell he got into writing, he just did it and it stuck. Maybe he doesn't even want to be viewed as some great literary persona. All I know is that I really enjoy reading his works and it makes me happy and makes me laugh. I think he wants everyone to laugh. Now isn't that nice?
